LAKE SINISSIPPI

This body of water is a bird-watcher's paradise. Because it's linked to the Horicon Marsh just to the North, the 2800-acre lake is home to Great Blue Herons, Egrets, American White Pelicans, Canadian Geese, ducks, and even a family of Bald Eagles. Bring your binoculars and a sense of discovery!

Boy with a Fish We think Lake Sinissippi is one of the undiscovered gems of Wisconsin. Even during the height of summer, there's not a great deal of boat traffic. Maybe that's because the lake is better known for carp and bullhead than walleye or perch. If you simply enjoy fishing for the sport of it, you'll catch plenty.

The lake is, however, well known for the Sinissippi Ski Club, which puts on shows throughout the summer. They even offer lessons for a nominal fee.

For more details, see the club's website

Be sure to visit the Horicon Marsh, just 15 minutes away, during your stay. You can rent canoes, kayaks, or take a guided tour. For more information, see: www.enjoyhoriconmarsh.com www.horiconmarsh.com

THE TOWN OF HUSTISFORD

Herons on Lake SinissippiFor such a small town (estimated population: 1100), Hustisford has no shortage of bars. We like the Friday night Fish Fry at either The Rock River (where you can also bowl) or Karen's Lone Pine Tap, located on the lake, right up the road from us. Great sunset views!

For the most part, it's a quiet town filled with nice people. The big events of the year start with the annual Toilet Bowl Parade on New Year's Day, and continue with car races on the frozen lake throughout the winter, the 4th of July Fireworks at Fireman's Park, and the yearly Venetian Night Boat Parade held every August, the Saturday night before Labor Day Weekend. Baby Geese at Firefly

Our favorite business in town is, by far, Mike's Hardware. Since we've been renovating Firefly for the past few months, we frequent Mike's a lot. You might not need to buy paint or hardware, but he also sells wild bird food, firewood and other things you might need. Mike's a super friendly guy, and always knows what's going on in the area. Stop in to say hello and tell him Brooke & Greg sent you! (We don't get kickbacks, honest!)

Rear view of Firefly Cottage

After years of neglect, what was once the ugliest house on the lake is now a charming and inviting cottage. Owners Greg & Brooke have installed new windows, vinyl siding and quaint shudders on the house they named Firefly.

Every room in Firefly has had a makeover, and now you can be among the first to enjoy a vacation in this terrific, air conditioned house. (here's what it used to look like!)

BEDROOMS:

There are 2 bedrooms on the main floor and 2 sofa beds in the Knotty Pine Rec Room on the lower level. All our bedding has hypoallergenic mattress and pillow covers for your comfort.

Aqua Room at Firefly

The Aqua Bedroom has both a lake view and a cornfield view. It contains a Queen-sized air mattress over a futon and frame; it feels like a waterbed. There's a chest of drawers for your clothes.

Bunk Bed room at Firefly Cottage

The Bunk Room also has a lake view and features a combination futon/bunk bed combo.

The full sized futon can be used either open or closed, and the upper bunk is a twin-sized bed.

Playful wall hangings and a hand-painted dresser make this a great bedroom for 2 children or parents and one child.

Living Room at Firefly Cottage

The Living Room is decorated with antique furniture, bookcases filled with games and paperbacks. and original art by Allyson Bahr and Jeremy Hanson of Milwaukee. A price list for these photographs and pastels is available in the cottage.

Our cheery eat-in kitchen has everything Firefly Kitchenyou'll need to cook up a storm: pots, pans, microwave, coffeemaker, glasses, dishes, silver, basic condiments and some spices. Have your morning coffee at this table and you'll be treated to fantastic views of the lake, especially Great Blue Herons who often catch fish from the Point on the adjoining property.

The cozy sunroom is a perfect place to enjoy a cool evening breeze as the sun goes down.

Sun Room at FireflyIf you just can't leave civilization completely behind, Firefly is equipped with wireless high speed Internet access which even works in the backyard. So, go ahead, check your email, but don't forget to relax!

Downstairs, you'll love the spacious new Rec Room, complete with cable TV, DVD player, and stereo. Again, you'll enjoy spectacular lake views from the new picture window. Pool Table and Rec Room at FireflyTake a look at our new pool table and imagine yourself with cue in hand!

Outside, there's a large fire pit where you can roast marshmallows and watch the sun go down. We have a charcoal BBQ, a patio, and a pier for your canoe, kayak or other small boat.
