LAKE
SINISSIPPI
This body of water is a bird-watcher's paradise. Because
it's linked to the Horicon Marsh just to the North, the 2800-acre
lake is home to Great Blue Herons, Egrets, American White Pelicans,
Canadian Geese, ducks, and even a family of Bald Eagles. Bring
your binoculars and a sense of discovery!
We think Lake Sin is one of the undiscovered gems of Wisconsin.
Even during the height of summer, there's not a great deal of
boat traffic. Maybe that's because the lake is better known
for carp and bullhead than walleye or perch. If you simply enjoy
fishing for the sport of it, you'll catch plenty.
The
lake is, however, well known for the Sinissippi Ski Club, which
puts on shows throughout the summer. They even offer lessons
for a nominal fee.
For
more details, see the club's
website
Be
sure to visit the Horicon Marsh, just 15 minutes away, during
your stay. You can rent canoes, kayaks, or take a guided tour.

THE
TOWN OF HUSTISFORD
For such a small town (estimated population: 1100), Hustisford
has no shortage of bars. We like the Friday night Fish Fry at
either The Rock River (where you can also bowl) or Karen's Lone
Pine Tap, located on the lake, right up the road from us. Great
sunset views!
For
the most part, it's a quiet town filled with nice people. The
big events of the year start with the annual Toilet
Bowl Parade on New Year's Day, and continue with car races
on the frozen lake throughout the winter, the 4th of July Fireworks
at Fireman's Park, and the yearly Venetian Night Boat Parade
held every August, the Saturday night before Labor Day Weekend.

Our
favorite business in town is, by far, Mike's Hardware. Since
we've been renovating Firefly for the past few months, we frequent
Mike's a lot. You might not need to buy paint or hardware, but
he also sells wild bird food, firewood and other things you
might need. Mike's a super friendly guy, and always knows what's
going on in the area. Stop in to say hello and tell him Brooke
& Greg sent you! (We don't get kickbacks, honest!)

Serenity
Not your grandfather's cottage!
Why
Serenity?
Why
drive hours and hours to go "Up North"? And after all that driving
in search of that elusive tranquility, you discover you've rented
some musty old cabin full of cobwebs and weird smells. "Is there
a dead squirrel in the rafters?" you wonder. "When was the last
time somebody washed these sheets?"
We've
all been there.
Now
it's time for you to try Serenity Cottage where the peace
and quiet of quiet Lake Sinissippi are just one hour's drive from
Milwaukee.
This
3-bedroom year-round, air conditioned
lake
home is the weekend retreat of Greg, an internet consultant
and realtor, and Brooke, a filmmaker. The small town of Hustisford
offered them a refuge from their busy lives without having to
drive too far from the city. Over the past few years, they've
transformed Serenity into a comfortable hideaway filled
with original art, funky décor and a friendly ambience.
The
property features 100 feet of lakefront, but Serenity's most
striking characteristic is its private little island where you
can nap on a hammock under the shade of a magnificent Weeping
Willow Tree. Serenity Island can be reached by footbridge
(shown here, and lit at night) or - for the more adventurous -
by rowboat! At night, roast marshmallows either on the island's
fire pit or the one located "on the mainland".
BEDROOMS:
Each bedroom has a different personality. All have newer beds
outfitted with hypoallergenic mattress pads and pillow protectors
beneath comfortable linens.

On
the SECOND FLOOR, we have the LAKE VIEW ROOM and the CORNFIELD
ROOM. The CORNFIELD ROOM, painted a soft terra cotta, is equipped
with two twin beds under cozy antique chenille bedspreads, a desk,
and a blonde mahogany chest of drawers.

The
LAKE VIEW ROOM, with its violet hues, offers an exceptionally
comfortable Sealy Posturpedic Queen Sized bed, and a wide blonde
mahogany dresser. It's also where we store our telescope, which
you're welcome to use for stargazing. Both rooms have ample closets.
On
the first floor, the BRIDGE VIEW ROOM is located just across from
the bathroom. Its closet is filled with extra towels and blankets.
With its deep burgundy walls, room-darkening curtains, firm pillow-top
Queen-Sized bed and jewel-toned linens, this is the place to get
a good night's rest or take an afternoon snooze.
All
the bedrooms have ceiling fans to insure your comfort during those
warm summer nights.

HOUSE
DÉCOR & FEATURES:

Brooke
and Greg decided to go with soft pastel colors throughout most
of the house. It's not typical Wisconsin cottage décor, but it's
part of what make Serenity Cottage, well, serene! The entire
house is filled with a combination of antiques and rummage sale
finds.
The
Entertainment Center is stocked with VHS tapes, DVDs, games, a
multiple CD player, and coffee table books. There are also plenty
of paperbacks, hard cover books and magazine for you to read.
Feeling inspired by all the art? You can try your hand at drawing
with the art kit and paper we've provided. And don't forget to
explore your autobiographical writing talents by telling your
stories in our Cottage Journal. Just in case you can't truly leave
the world behind, we have wireless high-speed internet access.
Just bring your laptop; it will even work in the yard.

The
Living Room has a pull out sofa bed, just in case you need more
sleeping accommodations. The Dining Room table, when it's fully
extended with its two leaves, can seat 8 people comfortably. Both
the Living and Dining Rooms have sliding glass doors that lead
to the patio for al fresco dining and relaxation.
Although
the kitchen isn't very large, it is well stocked with pots, pans,
a dishwasher, microwave, new fridge and smooth-top stove and all
the seasonings you'll need to make gourmet meals. If grilling
is more your speed, there's a propane gas grill waiting for you
on the patio.
